Writing on Medium and Writing my Novel.
Diary of Being a Writer; Month 58.

We are almost at the end of February. That one went quick.
Frankly, I am not even sure I could tell you what I have been doing. I mean, if I thought really hard I could but also do you really want to know? It will be about kids, pets, or work. I do know there was also some reading and writing in there too, so that‘s good.
Anyway, this is meant to be a blog about writing, not some waffle about the passing of time, although let’s face it, it is often both.
After all, we mark the passing of time with how many words were written, how many chapters edited, or how many times we got distracted from writing by all the other demands on our time, like work and family.
What more do I have to say about writing after 57 months of documenting my progress from naïve, hopeful writer of my first novel back in March 2018 to naïve, hopeful writer of my third novel (if we don’t count all the others that got shelved in between, and we don’t) in 2023? I am still creating, still learning, still reading, still writing, still exploring. And it is brilliant. I love it.
However, I feel I don’t always have anything profound to say about it. My learning curve is not as steep these days. I am not having revelations I feel the need to share. Hence the originally once a week diary becoming more and more sporadic then, finally changing the word “week” for “month”. I may even change to “year” at some point.
I will never make money on Medium as I do not put enough content on here, nor do I write enough actual articles. You need to do both those things to be financially successful on here. I enjoy recording this journey of mine. It is for me more than anything. If you get anything out of it, then that is a wonderful bonus. But I resent any further time writing other articles that would take away from continuing to write my novels. Occasionally I can’t help myself and write something else instead, but I don’t craft it particularly carefully or make sure it has the right images or perfect headline. I just bang on about something because I feel like it. Which keeps writing on here a pleasant pastime and a bit of fun, not something I feel forced to do.
