The Importance of Friends who Write.
Diary of Being a Writer; Month 60.
Have a look at the acknowledgement section of any published novel and there will be a bunch of names in there that get thanked that don’t have a title like agent or editor beside them. They will be the writer friends of that author. These are the most important friends you can have as far as your writing goes.
If I have learnt anything from this journey so far, it is that writing friends are crucial in the pursuit of being a writer. I have a few and I cherish them. I have never even met some of them in person, but they are all invaluable as I continue to learn and grow as a writer.
Writer friends will get you. No one else will understand the peculiar niggles and doubts and roadblocks we come across as we write. No one else will be able to motivate you to keep going in quite the same way.
These are the people that will encourage you when you feel like you can’t write.
As for getting your work read, these are the best people to do it, they not only are avid readers, they also understand what it takes to write and what it takes to put it out there, their critiques will be helpful constructive criticism. They won’t just say ‘it’s good’ or ‘it’s bad’. Their criticisms will be helpful, not crippling. They know you are not looking…
