I don’t know.
At least I got straight up, and I am writing at my desk first thing. I resisted the temptation to tweet as Agatha. Or to post more photos of my cats on my desk on Instagram, for now.
Talking of Twitter and Instagram, there was an article published last week about how using the hashtag #amwriting was something people did to whinge, and that it was pretentious, and amateur. I thought the article was a crock of shit. I use that hashtag as a way of feeling connected to other writers. I use it to let my friends know that I am not ignoring them and that I am writing that day. I use it because it feels nice to state my intention for the day. The writing group this article was shared in was meant to be a supportive one. Yet all of us who felt insulted by the article were ignored. Those in the group who agreed with the article said things like ‘if you use the hashtag you aren’t a real writer’. Those of us who disagreed with the article said we use that hashtag because writing can be lonely and it is nice to connect with others’. They replied ‘if you feel that way, you shouldn’t be a writer’. The article and the comments were overly harsh critiques of a thing that I for one am trying to get to grips with, using social media correctly as a writer who wants to write, build their brand, connect with others and build…
