Diary of Being a Writer; Week 129.
Editing words. Adding descriptions.
I feel like things might get a bit tedious for you this week as I am still doing word edits.
I am going through the WIP looking for troublesome words or phrases like very, really and thing.
I am not sure how exciting that is going to be.
I continued with the tedium of removing the last of the ‘that’s.
And then I read it aloud to Ben for a while. Together we found bits that needed more detailed description so the reader can picture what is going on. And some moments that needed explanations for the reader to understand why things are happening. And a couple of spots that needed their “that” back.
I also found random punctuation errors, like missing full stops and commas, annoying little bastards.
Some comments/edits/suggestions came through from Benne on the shared document last night too. It is so heartening to get positive feedback. And so helpful to get constructive criticisms in the form of suggestions for improvement.
So between Ben laughing out loud at some of Dawn’s lines and Benne telling me in the comments that she laughed I am feeling happy today.
