A blank Scrivener awaits…

It is already day three of my holiday/writers retreat, located in my ever so glamorous front room. I spent the first two days doing another edit of Dawn and the Duke. And now, today, I should be starting my next novel. Yet again, I am paralysed by indecision and doubt. Only one agent has requested a full manuscript of Dawn. I feel like I have now queried every single agent who will accept fantasy submissions. Although many say to allow three months for them to get back to you, I bet they don’t take that long if they really love the idea.
If I write another Dawn, I will be submitting a second novel to agents that have already said they don’t want her.
If I write in another genre, I will be able to submit to an entirely new batch of literary agents.
But am I clever enough to write a cosy mystery or a thriller? I know that I can’t write romance.
I love writing. I love creating something entertaining, and that hopefully adds a little something to the world.
The problem is that I find it very hard to write while I am working at another job. I really want to sell my book to justify dropping one day of work to have a week that is half writing and half working.
If my books don’t sell, I can’t justify spending all this time and energy on them. I will just have to go back to short-form blogs and bits and bobs. Obviously, I still…
