It’s NaNoWriMo everyone!
NaNoWriMo has begun. For those of you who don’t know, it is National Novel Writing Month, but really it should be called International Novel Writing Month because it has spread. I guess rebranding is tricky, just ask Mr Zuckerberg. And InNoWriMo doesn’t sound right.
But what is it, you ask?
Well, it is a month where you try to write 50,000 words of a first draft.
But why do you even need an official month for that, you might ask?
For many of us, it gives us the freedom to say that for this one month, my writing is the priority. I will be neglecting the housework and my family for a month. Put up with it.
Are you wondering what do you win if you complete it?
Nothing, there are no prizes. You can print out the certificate if you like.
Who authorises the certificate?
No one checks if you actually wrote anything. This is about you and giving yourself the time and space to write. You only answer to yourself.
It is worth pointing out that it has an online community or two or a million, making for a warm and cosy feeling of your writing belonging to something bigger.
