I have a request and a whinge.

Today, I want to talk about this blog and why I write here. Why I published most of my memoir here and what I jolly well am not here for.
Let me be really clear. Medium for me is a place to publish my writing and to read other peoples writing. The amount of followers I have does not make any difference to the pittance I earn on here. I haven’t broken the three-dollar threshold yet, same as when I had 1000 followers. I love having this place to collect my musings as I take this journey. It is not a social media site. I only follow writers who I feel I cannot afford to miss a single article they publish. I already have too much to read each month as it is. I will only add you to my list of people I follow if you write something amazing that really grabs my attention. And then, only if I think you will write more articles that will be just as amazing. I enjoy browsing Medium. Sometimes I browse by subject and then see where the rabbit hole leads. Sometimes I take Mediums suggestions for me.
So please stop asking me to follow you because you have followed me.
And do not follow me if you aren’t interested in what I write but just want to build up your followers.
That sort of thing may be acceptable on Instagram or Twitter, but not here. Your tweet or gram takes a second to glance at and like, and it is actually on social media. Reading…
