Diary of Being A Writer; Week 204
It’s over. Back to Work.
Today is the last day of my self-styled, budget-friendly, at-home writer’s retreat.
Despite its lack of a picturesque cottage nestled in the hills with gorgeous views and a break from my family, it was still a wonderful luxury. Not having to interrupt my headspace with anything else during the day was amazing.
At my friend’s suggestion, I listened to John Cleese’s audiobook on creativity. Going for only one hour, it is not the bang for your buck you get from Stephen Fry reading The Jeeves Collection for 45 hours, but it was interesting. The things he said about making a space to create in resonated. Not just a place but headspace. And how once you are in the creative space, getting interrupted can take you out, and it can take a while to get back in again. I really related to this. This is why I have a sign that I put out when I am writing that says Do Not Disturb. It doesn’t always work that well, but it helps. Sometimes.
Having the last few weeks to myself meant that the were whole days I didn’t get interrupted. There were entire days that were just me and my ideas.
It was lovely.
Tomorrow I will go back to work. Tomorrow my head will be filled with other things, other problems, other issues.
I will still write most days if I can, but it won’t be the same. It will take longer each day to get into the right headspace, and I will have less…
