Diary Of Being A Writer; Week 45
I had to call in sick. I was annoyed with me.

So how are my new year resolutions to stick to my rigid daily routine holding up?
Yeah, not so rigid. I am still trying though.
I did do my morning pages, but it is the school holidays, and there wasn’t enough food in the house, and I did get derailed a little.
I ended up using what time I did have to read instead.
I cope better with intermittent interruptions to reading than writing. As in I don’t get as snappy about it. Something I will have to continue work on.
I am glad I chose to read, as I picked up Memoirs Of A Suburban Girl by Deb Kandelaars, a fellow Adelaidian. It was a fantastic read, a story of domestic violence and survival. As with the wonderful memoir by Jo Case, Boomer and Me, knowing the eventual outcome did not remove my sense of suspense or eagerness to immerse myself in the rich narrative. Deb’s memoir is a tale that despite her grim circumstances somehow manages not to be weighed down by the horrors she describes. Her deft touch and ability to take us backwards and forward in time broke up the relentless hideousness of her partner’s behaviour. She managed to explain the inexplicable(why women stay) and do it without asking for pity, just understanding.
