Diary of Being A Writer; Week 71

I continue to try and not be impatient with myself and just enjoy writing.

Monday, 15th July.
Last week I looked at my calendar and decided that I would take the week off from writing. I had thought that maybe I could sneak some writing in, but that I would make the decision there was no scheduled writing and any that happened would be a bonus. There was no bonus.
Once again this has hammered home the excellent and oft-repeated advice around the importance of scheduling your writing and making the time for you to write; otherwise, it just won’t happen. Life is too busy and too demanding to allow us to slink off and ignore it unless we are very clear that that is what we are going to do.
Even on the days that are scheduled for writing, there are always chores quietly nagging at me to be done, and on days where I am not feeling great about writing, there are chores that I seek out as a distraction. For instance today I have already vacuumed, wiped down benches, stripped the bed, put a second load of washing on, put the dishwasher, done my tax and replanted a tree. I need something to stick my arse to the chair because I seem to be bouncing off of it every five minutes. Just trying to write this entry alone has taken over two hours.
And once again, writing this diary, this journal, allows me to reflect on what I am doing and correct…
