Diary of Being a Writer; Year Two
104 weeks of writing and four weeks of writing full time.
A reflection on two years.
This diary was originally a way of keeping myself accountable to a word count and to track the progress of my writing and publishing my first novel. Instead, it has been a lot more nuanced than that. It has been about keeping me focussed on writing as my goal. It has been about calling myself out when my confidence has wavered. I have recorded my attempts at writing first a novel, a few short stories, part of another novel, and actually finishing the first draft of my memoir. There has not been any editing it or submitting it to any publishers yet. Both things I am terrified of doing. There have been some freelance articles published and paid for, and now I am working on an Urban Fantasy WIP. It looks like it is benefitting from everything I have learned so far. There is always more learning. I hope it never stops.
I had thought I would be in a very different place by now with my writing, I am not sure where but more confident would have been a pleasant start.
On the other hand, I am much further along than I realised I could be because I didn’t know how much I had to learn and how much the regular practice of writing would improve my skills. I have also done a ton of courses along the way. I am still doing the…
