So you have fallen in love with someone who has kids.

Do you know how stepmothers are portrayed?
Do you know why?
No one likes stepmothers.
You are the lowest of the low.
I mean, what were you thinking?
Are you the mothering type?
This is not mothering.
Are you someone who never wanted kids?
Then don’t. This is having kids in your life for real.
You just aren’t considered a real parent.
The law and society do not see you as important in any context.
You are just someone who was silly enough to fall in love with someone who already had kids.
Also, this person has an ex, and not one who might be mentioned, in passing, once. This is an ex you get to talk about all the time. And you get to see them every week. And they will hate you.
Why you ask? Because, unlike childless breakups, they never get to not see each other and get over it. Instead, they have to talk to each other all the time and see each other every week. This can fester some real resentment, and you get to be an excellent focus for that.
