Today was all about scans, Bone scans CT scans and some others. I am not really sure I kind of vagued out. I just knew I had to fast, get injected with various things, and do a lot of lying very still.

The scans were so that they can be sure that the cancer is as localised as it seems to be at this stage.

With one of the scans, when they say that ‘you will get a metal taste in your mouth and feel like you are going to pee yourself but won't’, it was entirely accurate. Weird.

When I am lying in a room with cameras moving at a glacial rate around me or being zoomed in and out of massive metal doughnuts, I am grateful I have practised mindfulness for so many years. It makes what could be a little intimidating, tedious and possibly claustrophobic experience much more bearable. I managed to relax into most of it and it wasn’t so bad. I didn’t love having to fold my arms above my head for one of them, but I coped.

On Monday, I will go and see the surgeon again and if the scans are clear, he will book me in for surgery. A lumpectomy, all being well. Hopefully, within four weeks. Sometimes I think maybe I should have gotten that private health insurance after all.
